Marcus Thompson
Viola

Marcus Thompson earned the  doctorate degree at The Juilliard School following studies with Walter  Trampler. He has appeared as viola soloist, recitalist and chamber  music player in series throughout the Americas, Europe and the Far East.  He was featured as soloist with the Symphony Orchestras of Atlanta,  Chicago, Cleveland, Philadelphia, Saint Louis, and the Czech National  Symphony. He has recorded the Bartok Viola Concerto and the Bloch  Suite with the Slovenian Radio Symphony.

He has been a guest of the Audubon, Borromeo, Cleveland,  Emerson, Jupiter, Muir, Orion, Shanghai, and Miami String Quartets, the  Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center; and a frequent participant in  chamber music festivals in Amsterdam, Anchorage, Dubrovnik, Montreal,  Seattle, Sitka, Los Angeles, Okinawa, Portland and Vail. He is an alumnus of Young Concert Artists, Inc. Born and raised in The Bronx, N.Y.C., he currently lives in Boston where, as the Robert R. Taylor Professor of Music and a Margaret MacVicar Faculty Fellow, he  founded and leads programs in chamber music and performance study at  MIT, and serves on the viola faculty at New England Conservatory of  Music.

Suzanne Nance
Soprano

Singer, actor and broadcaster Suzanne Nance studied music and communications at Syracuse University and received a Master’s degree in Voice Performance from DePaul University in Chicago. Most recently, Ms. Nance has performed in Prague, London, Philadelphia, Chicago, New York and Bangor and Portland, ME. Favorite opera roles include Despina in Cosi fan tutte, Ottavia inL’Incoronazione di Poppea, Mimi in La Bohème and Blanche Dubois in A Streetcar Named Desire.

A recipient of a 2006 CAAP Grant and a David Leibig Memorial Grant for performance and dedication to classical music, Suzanne Nance was named a finalist in the 2005 West Palm Beach National Vocal Competition. Suzanne has enjoyed performances on PBS and NPR as well as a guest appearance on Good Morning America. Currently the Music Director for Maine Public Broadcasting Network (MPBN), Suzanne Nance produces and hosts the weekday morning classical music program from 9AM to Noon. In recent past, Nance has interviewed artists such as soprano Jessye Norman, poet Mark Strand and violinists Hilary Hahn and Joshua Bell.

Paul Berkowitz
Piano

A student of Rudolf Serkin at the Curtis Institute of Music, Paul Berkowitz has toured with great success in the U.S., Canada and Europe. Recent performances and recordings have focused on the piano music of Beethoven, Schubert, Schumann and Brahms. A recording artist for Meridian Records, his discography includes a seven-volume CD set of the complete Schubert Piano Sonatas (which won accolades for "Records of the Year" in the Sunday Times of London and the Los Angeles Times), as well as Schumann's Kreisleriana, which was selected by the BBC Record Review as the best of all available recordings of the work. In 1993, Mr. Berkowitz joined the music faculty at the University of California at Santa Barbara, having been Professor of Piano at the Guildhall School of Music in London since 1975. His students have won prizes in many important competitions, including the Charles Heenen International Chamber Music Competition (the Netherlands), the BBC Young Musician of the Year, and the Young Concert Artist Auditions.

Maria Bachmann
Violin

Hailed by The New York Times as "a violinist of soul and patrician refinement", Maria Bachmann has been a featured soloist worldwide and has been profiled in Time magazine, as well as by Mirabella and CD Review. She has performed as soloist with the National Symphony at the Kennedy Center, the St. Louis Symphony, Portland Symphony, Pacific Symphony and Omaha Symphony, as well as abroad with the Taipei Symphony, Shanghai Symphony, MAV Symphony in Budapest, the Brabants Orchestra of the Netherlands, and with the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra on tour in Japan. 

Of Hungarian descent, Ms. Bachmann is noted for her performances of works by Bela Bartok, and was invited by the Library of Congress to recreate the legendary Szigeti/Bartok recital of 1940 in a nationally broadcast performance there.  An eminent champion of new music, composers Philip Glass, George Rochberg, Leon Kirchner, Paul Moravec and Sebastian Currier have all written works for her. In the 2009-2010 season, Ms. Bachmann performs the World Premiere of Philip Glass's Double Concerto for Violin, Cello and Orchestra with cellist Wendy Sutter and the Orchestra of The Hague in The Netherlands, and the World Premiere of Paul Moravec's Violin Concerto at Philadelphia's Kimmel Center with Orchestra 2001. She performs Corigliano's Red Violin Concerto in Chicago's Millenium Park, Bartok's Violin Concerto No. 1 with the Waukesha Symphony in WI, and the Barber Violin Concerto on Opening Night at the Peninsula Festival in Ephraim, WI. She has won first prizes at The Fritz Kreisler Competition in Vienna, The Concert Artists Guild Competition in New York and The Pro Musicis Award. 

Ms. Bachmann has made numerous solo recordings; her latest cd, "The Red Violin," was chosen by BBC Music Magazine as "North American CD of the Month" in May 2007. She studied at the Curtis Institute of Music with Ivan Galamian and Szymon Goldberg, and was awarded the Fritz Kriesler Prize for outstanding graduating violinist. She performs on a 1782 violin by Niccolo Gagliano.

Jon Klibonoff
Piano

Jon Klibonoff has appeared as orchestra soloist, solo recitalist and chamber musician throughout the U.S. and abroad. His numerous awards include the Silver Medal of the Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition, the Affiliate Artists Xerox Pianists Award, the Pro Musicis Foundation Award, First Prize at the Kosciuszko Chopin Competition, The Concert Artists Guild Competition, and a Solo Recitalists Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts.  Mr. Klibonoff has performed as guest artist with numerous chamber groups, including the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and the Shanghai, Miami and Lark String Quartets. For three seasons he was artist-in-residence for the “On Air” radio series produced by WQXR classical radio in New York City. Mr. Klibonoff has been heard in recital at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall, the 92nd Street 'Y', and the National Gallery and the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.  He has collaborated with many instrumentalists including flutist Carol Wincenc, clarinetist David Shifrin and cellist Yo-Yo Ma. His many orchestral engagements include the Baltimore, Utah, Buffalo, Denver and North Carolina Symphonies.

He has recorded Philip Glass's Sonata for violin and piano and other works with violinist Maria Bachmann for their 5th recital album, and they perform the New York and West Coast premieres of the Glass Sonata in the 2009-10 season. Previous recital cds with Ms. Bachmann include The Red Violin for Endeavour Classics/Allegro, Fratres and Kiss on Wood for BMG/Catalyst, and Rochberg and Beethoven Sonatas for The Connoisseur Society Label. Their CD Fratres was reissued on Sony/RCA Red Seal in 2005. A graduate of the Juilliard School and the Manhattan School of Music, Mr. Klibonoff is on the faculty of the Manhattan School of Music. In the 2009-2010 season, Mr. Klibonoff performs Shostakovich's 2nd Piano Concerto with the Virginia Symphony.
