Beethoven String Quartet No.5 in A Major, Op.18 No.5
Filmed at the beautiful Rockport Opera House in January 2021, this Beethoven concert is a 4 movement work. The opening movement is joyous and optimistic. Next, the Menuetto is a lively dance theme with grace and subtlety. Third is a theme and variation movement with vivid imagery, including elements of march music, a spinning wheel, and quiet chants. The brief finale marks a close to a work that contains many conversational elements and robust statements.
This wonderful Beethoven composition represents string quartet writing at its best.
Published in 1801, this work was dedicated to Prince Joseph Franz von Lobkowitz.
These newly produced concerts will run through June, a new work premiering every 3 weeks.
Additional performances in the DaPonte Onstage concert series feature works by:
Schulhoff, Shostakovich, Ravel, Mozart, Stravinsky.
