Beethoven String Quartet No.5 in A Major, Op.18 No.5

Watch Concert Now

Filmed at the beautiful Rockport Opera House in January 2021, this Beethoven concert is a 4 movement work. The opening movement is joyous and optimistic. Next, the Menuetto is a lively dance theme with grace and subtlety. Third is a theme and variation movement with vivid imagery, including elements of march music, a spinning wheel, and quiet chants. The brief finale marks a close to a work that contains many conversational elements and robust statements.

This wonderful Beethoven composition represents string quartet writing at its best.

Published in 1801, this work was dedicated to Prince Joseph Franz von Lobkowitz.

These newly produced concerts will run through June, a new work premiering every 3 weeks.

Additional performances in the DaPonte Onstage concert series feature works by:
Schulhoff, Shostakovich, Ravel, Mozart, Stravinsky.

Fall Workshops
We received notice that our workshop venue partner (Kieve-Wavus Educational campuses) has made the difficult decision to cancel the reminder of their hosted events for 2020. We realize that this was a difficult decision for them to make but we support their concern for the safety and health of our students. We look forward to rescheduling our workshops in 2021. Many thanks to all for your continuing interest in the educational offerings of the DaPonte String Quartet
We take the health and well-being of our entire community very seriously and we acknowledge the increasing concerns over the spread of COVID-19. Therefore, we have made the decision to cancel the Spring concerts, the DSQ Institute in June, and the June 11 gala concert at Bowdoin.
